Best Tapas Bars

My blog was initially started so that I could share with you some of the best places to eat Tapas in Tenerife. Why? Because so many British/other holiday makers travel to the Island and insist on eating traditional ‘English Breakfast’ or ‘Angus Steakhouse’!!! Where is your sense of adventure, you are missing out on so much by not opting to go out and seek some traditional Island food.

There are Tapa restaurants in many tourist parts and you do not have to go far to find one. I bet you have walked past these places many times and not thought of stopping by to try it. It is amazing how as British (not all, as I do not want to stereo-type) but a large majority of us are programmed in to go to another country and want to eat the same food, drink the same brand of drinks and shop in the supermarkets that sell English Brands. I just do not understand this way of thinking. Let me ask you to Stop! And the next time you see a Tapas Bar, go up to it, take a look at what is on offer and ask what is in the food. Don’t just judge on how it looks but ask for a few small tapas and try them out. You will be surprised on how good they taste.

The food is ideal for lunch or mid-afternoon snacks as they are light, tasty and perfect with a cold beer. If you do not fancy Tapas, then try a chicken sandwich with salad (a chicken breast) instead of the typical ‘toasted sandwich’ which once again is so much like home. I can guarantee if you go to one of the Tapas Bar and select a sandwich from their menu, you will not order another toasty again. You could even try a slice of omelette (Tortilla) and potato salad (ensaladilla) as a light bite during the day. The ensaladilla is a one of my favourites and made of potatoes, egg, carrots, peas, mayonnaise and sometimes tuna. Yes, tuna and it is tasty.

Let me start off with my top recommendations for Tapas in the South of Tenerife (based on my own opinion and experiences only):

1. Rosie’s Bar
Calle Noelia Afonso Cabrera, Playa De Las Americas
How to find it – head towards the Columbus Hotel and around the corner is the Irish Bar “The Chieftain’. You are now in the street where you need to be. From the Chieftain, you need to walk a short distance away from the Bar and the Columbus Hotel and Rosie’s Bar is on the opposite side of to the Chieftain.

Don’t be put off with the outside appearance and it being full of locals, this is a good sign as you know that the food will be good and a reasonable price. Take the opportunity to go in, look at the food and order a couple of dishes. Some of my favourite dishes are beef and chickpeas, pork and onions with chips or the Tortilla and ensaladilla.

2. San Luis Restaurant
Calle Estocolmo, 7, 38650 Los Cristianos,

How to find it – head up from Playa Los Cristianos and you will need to go up some side streets to find this place. Note that there are a few steep steps to climb to the entrance, so you need to take this into consideration. From the beach, you can either walk up Calle Paeseo Madrid, turn onto Av. Los Playeros or from Taberna Rustic Steak House, walk past Cafeteria Borbone and onto Av. Los Playeros and you are in the area.

3. El Rebumbio
Avenida de Bruselas 20, Costa Adeje
How to find it – you can either walk from the Hotel Jacaranda or from the Hotel Sunwing which are both short distances to the Tapas Bar. I have ate on many occasions here and it has never disappointed me. Worth a visit. Also there is a fantastic Tapa Bar (right next door to El Rebumbio) where you can buy some amazing hot chicken baguette sandwiches and with a delicious menu.

4. BP Petrol Station
Centro Commercial, Siam Mall, Av Siam, Adeje
Ho to find it – from the Hotel Columbus, cross over to Michael Angelo Italian Restaurant (which is highly recommended), turn right to the end of the street and then turn left so that you are walking down Av. Arguitecto Gomez Cuesta. Continue past Las Floritas, Hotel Catalonia Oro Negro and when you reach a small roundabout, cross the road and turn right. Continue the short walk straight on (you will see the BP Garage from the roundabout). This place is used by the locals and is really good value and open 24/7.

5. Hernandez Bar
Lugar Urbanizacion San Eugenio, Adeje

How to find it – if you are in the area of San Eugenio near the Centro Commercial and Supermarket, from San Eugene’s Bar (The Temple Bar to the back of you) walk up the road past the Irish Rover Bar, the Rum Pot Bar and keep walking a short distance on the same side of the road as these Bars and you will be at Hernandez Bar within a few minutes. If is next door to a small supermarket.

Stay posted and follow me on Twitter and my Blog to find out more places to eat, very soon. The count down has started and I will be in Tenerife in the next few weeks so you will get to join me on my trip and see the new an exciting things I will share with you.

Until my next Blog post, good bye for now and stay safe x
